Keep Spartan as the new name of the next version of Internet Explorer
With the next version of IE a big overhaul is coming, reportedly. Anyhow, a major update is desirable indeed. And additionally, sad to say but true: IE has still some negative perceptions it no longer deserves. So considering a new name would be understandable.
Spartan, as the code name of IE12 is a great choice. As you did with code name Cortana earlier on WP, please keep Spartan once the new browser is released to the public.
As known, renaming of the browser has been suggested internally as well:
Thanks for your feedback on Spartan. While we can’t promise to ship every suggestion that gets submitted, we will be sure that our product development team receives your feedback.

Spartan please, since it has Cortana as its assistant, just like how Master Chief has Cortana as his assistant.

Some logo to keep in mind for Spartan :

Microsoft's claims about listening to user feedback are misleading, They still have selective deafness in terms of user feedback, just look at this guys:

I think something along the lines of Microsoft Inori would be nice, as homage to Internet Explorer's official mascot who may or may not be the mascot for the new browser as well.

While I use IE and am mostly happy with it (since IE10), at this point there just is no saving the brand name. People don't even want to try the browser. No matter how fast it is in loading a site, they insist it is slower than other browsers, because they have been told so many times IE is slow, incompatible and all round horrible.
Loose IE, adopt Spartan - it will make the fans happy and on top of that it speaks even to me as someone who never played halo, just because ancient greek sparta with its myths and legends around it evoke images of being sleek, fast and efficient.
p.s. the Argument that IE is widespread in corporations and therefore should be kept as a brand in my mind acutally is something counting against the name. The fact that many companies still use terribly slow legacy apps based on an old IE and for this force users to work with one of the old versions of the browser just compounds to the negative image.
p.s.s. Getting spartan as a cross platform browser would be great, so it can take back some of the market share on all those iOS and apple devices.

Personally I'd rather see "Project Spartan" be the final name rather than just "Spartan"

SPARTAN definitely should be a cross-platform browser available for Windows 10, iOS, and Android(including Linux OSes). Internet explorer is continuously losing market share to chrome.
Microsoft please think about it!

Seems like the public was right with Cortana, so you might want to listen to them here.
Edge might be okay, but feels like it was something that was focus grouped and came out of committee. Doesn't convey anything meaningful.
Spartan says something to me. Lean, utilitarian, the under dog, secure. I dig it, doesn't hurt that it has Halo ties like Cortana.

No matter how good Project Spartan is, if it is called Internet Explorer 10 nobody will use it! This is just because of Internet Explorer's bad rep. I hope Microsoft names the new Browser "Spartan". Maybe they can even have a flat, line art, Master Chief as the logo!

Keep it Spartan. You can't have Cortana without her Spartan. The program icon should be a globe with the lineart of the Master Chief's head in it.
